As County Recorder, one of my responsibilities is relocating the spiders my wife doesn't like from the house.

Steatoda grossa

(I occasionally cheat and relocate them to a quiet spot elsewhere)

We had an hour of beautiful, very welcome rain on Thursday night.

The next morning I found this beautiful Noble False Widow spider (Steatoda nobilis) sheltering under a plant tray when I emptied water onto the garden.

Bernadette was my garage squat rack spider. She kept me safe from mosquitoes. We shared a home peacefully for ~6 months until recently when I found her, dead, suspended in her web, entangled with a large cricket. A struggle to the death, I presume. RIP Bernadette, you will be missed. 😭😭

It’s a false widow (Steatoda grossa). Not medically significant. Also very shy and non-bitey

This week a small team of BAS members searched for spiders at Wangford Warren in Suffolk (permission from @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social), a breckland site. We recorded several uncommon species, some typical of bare or sandy soils. Shown are Steatoda albomaculata, Thanatus striatus, Euophrys frontalis

a triangulate cobweb spider, or steatoda triangulosa! the abdomens on the guys are pretty small, but it's worth taking a close look for that fun harlequin pattern 😊 #spider #steatoda #steatodatriangulosa #cobwebspider #falsewidow #arachtober

De ingang van 1 van de gangen van de nestgelegenheid voor sachembijen is nu in beslag genomen door een steatoda.
Het is de ideale plek aangezien hier in de ochtend geregeld insecten zitten om op te warmen.

These egg sacs are ALMOST ready to pop and release a swarm of spiderlings. I eagerly await the sudden appearance of a hundred babies.
