During his long career in Mainz, Sterkel was one of the finest, smoothest keyboardists in Europe. Beethoven even modeled his playing on Sterkel's after hearing him play while still in his Bonn years. This is a nice album for Keyboard & Violin fans!🤠

You can tell a composer of this period was famous in their lifetime when their letters complain about others publishing music under their name to boost sales. Here's a name that was well-known in his time but virtually unknown to us. Same old story. Sterkel was nearly famous for his keyboard playing, not the virtuoso stuff that was going around like pox, but he is credited with teaching Beethoven legato! 🤠
