The mastermind was Steven Greenberg. The multi-instrumentalist/producer wrote, produced, & played most of the instruments on the project. To bring his sound to life, Greenberg recruited the incredible Cynthia Johnson, a former Miss Black Minnesota. #StevenGreenberg #CynthiaJohnson #OneHitWondered

Minneapolis was not Funkytown! (well, at least not then 🤣 ) Steven Greenberg was lookin’ for a more exciting music scene, dreaming of relocating from Minneapolis to NYC… Gotta make a move to a town that's right for me! #Funkytown #StevenGreenberg #CynthiaJohnson #OneHitWondered

"Funkytown" is a song by American #disco-#funk group #LippsInc, written and produced by #StevenGreenberg and released by #CasablancaRecords in March 1980 as the second #single from the group's debut studio album, #MouthToMouth (1979). The track was met with immediate commercial success.

Funky Town by Lipps Inc. was the No.1 song in the U.S. on this day in 1980.
