A pleasure to chat with the curious folk of Dringhouses Local History Group about my research of the forgotten young Victorian women who had once crossed the threshold of York Penitentiary to escape their desperate lives on the mean streets of the City of York.

I had come in search of a name etched in stone and as the clouds of a September afternoon passed over the Celtic inspired cross dedicated to the Fallen of The Great War - a poignant chapter of my ancestral story was rewritten.

It was a pleasure to journey to the historic village of Luddenden in West Yorkshire on Wednesday evening to meet with the lovely history folk and chat scandal at the baptismal font, sleuthing a cruel bigamist and unearthing a heartbreaking mystery found with a burial register.

A monument rich in symbolism tells of a husband's love for his wife Martha who died in the autumn of 1917 and of his daughter Christina Mary who entered into rest in 1876.

Robert Miller would be reunited with his family in 1931.

It may be a small letter from the year 1874 and penned by the shaky hand of one not long for this earth but it is a letter packed with tantalising genealogical hints about the author's exciting ancestral backstory.

Why would I photograph my musings about tombstone wanderings in a quiet Yorkshire village in the JUNE publication of THE DALESMAN MAGAZINE against a memorial in the City of York to Dr. John Snow (1813-1858) the pioneer of public health and who proved that cholera is water-borne?

On this day in 1792 Anne Isabella was born at Elemore Hall in County Durham to Sir Ralph Milbanke and his wife the former Judith Noel.

And at Seaham Hall in January 1815, history would take her on a different path after her calamitous marriage to the poet Lord Byron.

MISTAKE! Can you see it?

One chilly April day in 1965, an attractive young woman was joined in unholy matrimony to a notorious criminal.

And the fallout from this lavishly short union between Frances Shea and Reg Kray would leave a trail of devastation in its wake.
