In April & May 2025, IL prisons went on lockdown dozens of times, mostly due to staff shortages. Lockdowns put ALL prisoners in a de facto solitary confinement. #StopSolitary

Solitary is torture, & 2,483 people in it in IL is too many. This doesn't even include people in a kind of solitary due to mental health crisis, protective custody—or simply because they are stuck in their cells with little time outside of them. #StopSolitary

This new virtual reality prison program in CA is supposed to "help" people in solitary—but the best way to do that is to get them out of it. People in prison deserve humane treatment, not experimental tech. #StopSolitary
