#Strategic-Thinking
Makes perfect sense to discontinue medical research right after a global pandemic that killed millions. This is the kind of strategic thinking we need!
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

i think people are wildly overestimating the level of strategic thinking behind what just happened in venezuela

Hey Bluesky, I am excited by all the energy coalescing on this platform. It seems like a place for strategic thinking, which we badly need.

A few initial thoughts:

so many of the worst decisions dems have made in the past decade haven’t been bad strategic thinking because they’re not even strategic as such; it’s just pure reactionary impulse, that is then backfilled with some laughable “strategic” rationalization. tiktok sale is a great example.
This makes some good points on the silliness of thinking the forced sale TikTok to an American oligarch was consistent with either liberal principles or Dem partisan interests. But it ignores the real reason for it: fear that young people might hear critical voices on Gaza. slate.com/technology/2...

If you somehow needed any more evidence that there’s zero strategic thinking happening at the highest levels of our government, well…

From 2023

Geraldo Rivera: “Is Donald Trump fit to be president?”

Bill Barr: “He does not have the ability for strategic thinking and linear thinking … It is a horror show when he’s left to his own devices.”

I spend a lot of time thinking about the importance of signaling in geopolitical and strategic stability. The "faith of Jerusalem" phrase is stuck in my teeth. 🧵
Hegseth: "We need students of western civilization and the pillars of our republic. Leaders who understand the faith of Jerusalem, the philosophy of anthems -- Athens. The power of Rome, and the freedom of Philadelphia circa 1776."

Some deep strategic thinking here: you shouldn't strike at critical assets of an enemy military because that cut off the "off-ramps" that said enemy shows no sign of wanting to take.

Stop saying I sue people...or I'll sue. That's the kind of top notch strategic thinking we need in the US Senate.👍

i have seen (and produced) posts lamenting the tactics brain of america's Warfighters™️--the obsession with producing tactical victories married to a total void of strategic thinking--"how do we turn battlefield victories into strategic outcomes"

Inside source on the strategic thinking of Hamas..... Brett McGurk
Look it's fine to say that but you also have to square this with the very obvious consequence that Hamas would (and did) see increased tension between US/Israel as a sign to prolong the suffering for everyone involved

the biden border bill and choosing to run on a “border patrol endorsed” piece of legislation should go down as not only cowardly and backward thinking but one of the worst strategic political decisions by democrats in recent memory, everyone involved should be out of politics forever

this just has me thinking about how so much of this government and the movement around it is purely a matter of aesthetics. is there a strategic reason for produce a new warship? maybe. but my hunch is that this is happening because the president thinks it will look cool.
President Trump will announce on Monday a new type of large warship he is calling “battleships,” marking a step toward achieving the president’s vision for a new “Golden Fleet.”
Trump To Announce Navy Will Buy New ‘Battleship’
The new warship will be the latest in what the White House envisions as a “Golden Fleet.”

this is basically ricks' argument in THE GENERALS: that the structure of the american military (and political leadership) has generated an enormously competent professional force... that consistently generates useless results because of a void of strategic thinking at the top

I get frustrated with people saying "Trump is doing A to distract from B." It implies strategic thinking.

A better theory: Every single thing Trump does is fucked up. He'd be doing evil shit regardless.

and making it work would require strategic thinking and an appreciation of history and probably some lawfare too. these guys barely have the strategic thinking to take a kid’s lunch money let alone steal an election let alone steal 20 of them
