And with my Nikon SB-800 speedlights when I'm going all strobist I still use the Nikon SU-800 trigger. The line-of-sight issues never bother me, I just remember to orient the RF sensor on the flash the proper direction. The darned thing just works.

No one knows how to meter. Most folks don't even understand exposure zones. Composition in photography is ignored by most shooters, and strobist styles are basically all part of cinematography training now.

In a past life (as late as 2023), I was a "strobist" photographer, which is to say I employed flashes on portraits. I really had a lot of disdain for all the "natural light" photogs, like oh you're too lazy to use actual tools.

For many years, the Nikon CLS was a big differentiator for them. Remember when The Strobist (David Hobby) was all the rage? It seemed everyone was getting into off-camera flash. Once shooting at ISO 25600 became possible, poof, it was all gone. Too bad, because flash is still mighty useful.
