The sun is streaming in this morning on the leather sofas in Stromness Library. 🌞
Those colourful matching cushions were knitted by staff and have been there since the library opened in 2015. The design is based on the stained glass windows of the old Stromness Library. ❤️

Many of the crew had not been paid and so to pay for supplies the men sold off some of Captain Cook's personal belongings while they were in Stromness. These included artefacts, natural history specimens and his personal dinner service which can still be seen in Stromness Museum.

In an otherwise clear sky, it was "disappointing" to have that band of cloud that just didn't want to disperse.
The bright light on the clouds is from the town of Stromness, where we had docked a few hours earlier.

It's 10 YEARS since Stromness Library relocated to the Warehouse Buildings. No we can't believe it either.
The new library opened at the end of May 2015 after being based in the old library building at the foot of Hellihole Road since 1906. Happy 10th Birthday! 🎂
