A small brown and white puppy named Stubby is lying on his side on a stone patio, playfully wrestling with a larger black-and-white puppy named Baxter. Stubby has his mouth wide open in a dramatic, exaggerated snarl, showing his little teeth—clearly in the middle of some energetic play. One of Stubby’s front paws is raised and resting on Baxter’s chest. Baxter’s face is only partially visible in the frame, leaning down toward Stubby. They are next to a wooden fence, and the photo is taken from a low, close-up angle, making the interaction look intense and theatrical, like a mock battle. Despite the fierce expressions, it’s a lighthearted, playful moment between two pups. Photo credit: Gregory Rothman, 2016.
