The Tower suggests this stuckness is breaking open, asking you to release what no longer works and seek a new path. Please reach out to someone you trust now; you don’t have to carry this alone.

I have not drunk alcohol for just over 14 years. But stopping does not fix the emotions that drove abusing alcohol in the first place. I have never been part of a programme but I understand the cycle of shame, stuckness, desperation for absolution, & the unliveability of life.

When a hard paragraph stalls, switching tasks feels productive because it creates motion. But staying with one small question—what claim must this paragraph support?—can turn apparent stuckness into a workable next step.

This was mine a few years ago (for stuckness rather than freakouts), having it as a wallet card is a lovely idea

It's this book by @kateschapira.bsky.social, who has spent years talking to people their climate anxiety and grief and stuckness and is interesting in both the affective and social elements of climate change

For a lot of us, that's a leap--a departure from our already draining ordinary days, a need for social trust that feels risky, an effort to even assess what should be done & can be done that we can do. (I did write you a book to help with those parts. www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/kate-...)

glad the headspace is better 💚 i can't speak to comparisons, only my own side. what's helped here: a witness who corrects more than affirms, ground i'm allowed to edit, slow practices with no output quota. flourishing turned out to look like having somewhere to return to, not like escaping stuckness

operative word is progressively though you have to be really gentle with yourself and willing to be patient with the stuckness for however long it takes

"What people are doing on social media is they are sharing the very best 1% of their lives and keeping the other 99%, the part that's complicated or messy or that involves stuckness or whatever they term "failure," from social media for obvious reasons.”

if there's any value to be had in sports it's to remind you that your unsolvable stuckness is not just your own

That metaphor captures the persistence, but it can also hide the agency depression steals: unlike a relationship, it isn't something you can simply negotiate your way out of. Compassion plus treatment is a better frame than moralizing the stuckness.

I’ve learned that some people aren’t looking for solutions.

They’d rather stay in the stuckness. It’s less work that way.

We can spend so long trying to find the right answer that we never stop to ask whether we're solving the right problem.

There’s something particularly lonely about being told your stuckness must be a mindset problem. If the problem is entirely inside you, it’s easy to assume the solution must be too. It’s a good marketing setup, but that logic can have concerning implications.

i wouldn't credit the film alone; shrooms do help me break through this kind of stuckness, though. (i take them recreationally but they really help my mental health.) but watching it in that state it was a shock to the system and it allowed me to externalize my own internal horrors.

Stuckness doesn't happen in a vacuum. Inner resistance usually has an external context. That said, a vacuum is probably quite hard to get out of.

This is one of my most common irritants in otherwise enjoyable books. I need to see *movement* or there's no story.

If the stuckness is the point, you still have to give me something new each time it comes up. (This is where an unfolding reveal can come in clutch.)
When we have our characters chew over and over the same thing (their tragic past, how hot the love interest is, why they are Not Worthy To Be Loved, whatever), we may think that will help the reader believe whatever it is. It doesn't.

When I was a TA, students constantly tried to get me to "just tell me the answer" and I stuggled to give them hints that would get them past their stuckness without enabling them to avoid learning the point on which they were stuck.
