#Stylesheets
Project pages are working, but the stylesheets aren't quite good enough yet. I'm going to work on styling and polishing the project pages today.

Well this is depressing. The gradual enshitification of the Internet srikes home.

I have only just now learned that browsers plan to deprecate client-side XSLT stylesheets.

Every last one of my dozens of web pages depend wholly on an XSLT stylesheet.

@lproven There is W3C Core Styles with it's sample HTML https://www.w3.org/StyleSheets/Core/stylebot.html?family=8&doc=Sampler

It would be very nice if W3C updated those with modern CSS and some of the newer HTML elements with MathML/SVG

I actually quite like making stylesheets, though I make the whole process easier by just using SCSS. Maybe I'll try and build some jank framework myself using Lua and some other stuff lol

recently switched to thunderbird as my desktop client. for many reasons. but i just don't care for how it looks out of the box. (sorry, @thunderbird.net!)

i've put together a theme that suits me better. it's a work in progress. but here it is, if there's any interest.

“But what about duplication in built stylesheets?” That’s not an issue CSS mixins will have. For Sass, I’d argue the tradeoff might be worth it.
September 22, 2026 at 8:01 PM
This is why I can’t wait for CSS mixins. They’ll enable the most important feature of Sass: being able to create truly presentational abstractions that can be applied within stylesheets.

who ate the stylesheets
September 22, 2026 at 8:49 AM
That's true! The down side is that you have to maintain two sets of stylesheets for your components.

Typst is one of the pieces of software I've been most excited about but setting up local stylesheets (and attempting to not include styling details in the main doc) ends up being convoluted and a bit head-achey
September 21, 2026 at 11:13 PM
I wrangled stylesheets back in the 2010s that would make today's front end developers curl into the fetal position.

@ifixcoinops I think the other thing here which may've been mentioned and just not showing up: emphasis also supported accessibility better. At the time some TTS was already beginning to support emphasis, and it also allowed low vision folks with custom visibility stylesheets to better see when […]

I'm refactoring the Vowel stylesheets, and my favorite discovery is using the & selector to identify an element inside its own nested rule. Want to style an element *and* children or variants of that element?

.parent {
&,
.child {
padding: 5px; /* applies to both parent and child */
}
}

I have spent the day at war with markdown parsing, print CSS, and browser PDF rendering but I have a basic pipeline working.

This post is a message... and part of a system of messages... pay attention to it!

Right, that's why I said *I* always put a space. I tried to look up stylesheets and I couldn't find a rule in CMOS, but it did seem clear that authors have leeway to stylize their initials as they like.

If actually published material you may also be looking at stylesheets of publishers, of course!

Fixed a bug where new site setups didn't correctly apply the selected template, and added support for custom color palettes in stylesheets.
