rosh hashanah is remembering the prior year, gratitude for it, but arent we always remembering? Succos religiously is about remembering the exodus.

I like the theory that Succot was originally the Big Holiday that everyone celebrated. Rosh Hashanah was just the day to announce that it was coming up, and Yom Kippur was a day, mostly for the Priests, to get spiritually ready for serving the people on Succot.

its disappointing to be a poor apartment jew on succos. i do not even have my own minim, and apparently borrowing them during the first two days(say from my shul) does not fulfill the mitzvah(Shulchan Aruch 649:2). but this is also what i did last year.

it makes more sense when you take them back to their agricultural contexts too. rosh hashanah being the new year for the calendar that was for keeping track of crop cycles, enjoying new fruits, and Succos itself being an agricultural festival also praying for seasonal rain for our crops

"succos" with the C instead of K makes sense as its סכות except for the fact that if it was סקות then that might be transliterated as suqqot therefore the K would still stand for the kaf and not the qof

anyway wonderful succos so far. doing the mitzvah as much as i can. only problem is im always a shlemiel and clumsy holding lulav and esrog and siddur but eh lol this is no surprise. i love the community im with, felt more included and appreciated than usual. that makes me very happy.
