#Summarization
Tis an entirely fair summarization...

We know we suck....

Today we just answer how much🤷‍♀️
America's always been stupid, America will always be stupid & today we just find out if we are still dick- in-the-frying-pan stupid or just tonguing-a-9-volt- battery stupid.

Part of the reason that it won't be trivial is that all the major search providers are moving to using llm-like technology for more than just summarization. They're using it to disclose information from links, provide figures, and even do ranking.

local models are useful for certain specialized tasks (OCR, transcription, translation, summarization, etc.) but I would much rather someone else be running the smarter and more expensive models
sama is right about local inference being quite wasteful but thats why you socialize inference or at the very least start treating it as a utility

I continue to avidly build with the robots on a daily basis. One of the more continually helpful use cases is summarization. Plop in the long, useless marketing

Maybe when you use them they entrench OBNs. When I use them they enable me to route around them. Perhaps you should rethink how you are using your search and summarization tools?

im triangulating on a combination of these approaches

some sort of iterative summarization and synthesis is basically required if the model is going have a mental map to pattern match on beyond just an embedding db

A paper becomes genuinely reusable when its code, data and workflow survive the handoff from author to agent.

Most AI paper assistants stop at retrieval and summarization.

A smooth summary can bury the one date you needed — my Gemini Masterclass (Ch. 18) teaches extraction, not summarization: pull every date, amount, and action item as a clean list you can check.

no, and nobody else's has been for a pretty long time now. it's a mix of mechanical scavenging, LLM summarization, and additional agent-operated information tooling

been sayin this; straightforward naive RAG search over a corpus reliably outperforms complex memory systems, with summarization, fact extraction, dreaming etc mostly hurting rather than improving effectiveness
Memory Tax: Dissecting the Net Value of Agent Memory
Memory is increasingly used in long-horizon agents, yet the net value of building memory over direct retrieval from raw history remains largely unclear. Through a large-scale evaluation across multipl...

Theoretically, they could have used a locally installed LLM to do the summarization. That's unlikely because many Acrobat users wouldn't have the local CPU/GPU power required.
