A shot taken while walking the abandoned streets of a recently completed historical amusement park before its grand opening. Ironically I didn’t notice until many months later that the kanji on these pillars were promoting a vintage film studio for photo ID’s, passport photos and such. But everything was new, made to look old. Very, very well done. The Leica Summaron-M 28mm F5.6 may actually be the perfect street photography lens. It’s razor sharp, contrasty, has excellent color rendition, and of course is exceptionally convenient with its low focusing worries. 😍😍😍

My girlfriend and I were trying to find a nice hotel to stay at. She’d called the hotel we most wanted to stay at only to be told that they had no vacancies, but that they could accommodate us at a very nice alternative property. That property turned out to be a sprawling luxury resort dedicated to worldwide history and geography that had just been completed, but had not yet had its grand opening. We were one of maybe 12 or 20 couples staying in a giant luxury resort and amusement complex meant for hundreds of thousands of people at capacity. Imagine having DisneyWorld almost completely to yourself! There were famous worldwide locales like Italy, Portugal, Thailand, New York, England, etc, etc, and of course China. This image was a typical view to be had walking in this park. Many shops and restaurants were already opened, and this shot I snapped from inside a coffee shop.

The following photo series illustrates the incompatibility between my Sony α7II /α7IIR cameras and the Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 (Type 2) and Summaron-M 35mm f/2.8 (M3 version). Both of my lenses are from 1964. Many people have issues with these two systems being compatible, but not everyone does.

New big bag kit: Leica M4 and a Nicca 5-L sharing a set of 35mm f3.5 Summaron, 50mm f2 Summitar coated, 90mm f4 Elmar, and 135mm f4.5 Hektor all in screw-mount with M adapters, and the Pentax 17.

M4 is Delta 400, 5-L is Fuji Color 400, and the 17 has Double-X.

One thing to say about this ‘One M and One Barnack and share lenses’ idea is that the little 35mm f3.5 Summaron looks really nice on the M4.

Since then, Summilux has become synonymous with particularly fast Leica lenses featuring an aperture of f/1.4 to f/1.7. The new interpretation combines the classic vintage look with state-of-the-art technology and is the fifth member of the Leica Classic Line, like the Summaron-M 28 f/5.6, the Thambar-M 90 f/2.2, the Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH. and the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4.
