In 1983 BBC one had plenty of new Cartoons for you, including Bananaman, Superted, Mighty mouse and Spiderman.

Easy to forget really of the period in the mid 80s where well known British shows found homes in the US and were just as popular there as here. As well as Young Ones, I think this with (original) Danger Mouse for Nickelodeon and to an extent Superted for Disney Channel
All this talk of The Young Ones reminds me: thanks to heavy rotation on MTV in the '80s and Comedy Central in the '90s, it's just as well-known (and for folk under 40 maybe slightly more so) in the US as the UK. Which is mad, as it must be one of the most specifically "Briddish" shows in existence.

And they dubbed Superted with the voice of the white kid brought into Diff'rent Strokes (who was also the voice of Montana Max in Tiny Toons)

It seems weird to think that at one point, we'd sit down to basically watch a TV show that was just... a YouTube fails compliation.
The 80s/90s were a weird time, but we did have SuperTed and Bananaman.

She's singing along to Poddington Peas now. And shouting "I'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT STOPPIT AND TIDYUP!". And doing a word perfect narration of the opening of Superted. And Rosie & Jim. Better never hope she learns how to edit video files @franticplanet.bsky.social

What was your role in the show? Superted the musical would have suited me down to the ground all those years ago!

Things I was frightened of as a child:
My Dad’s book on The Unexplained (below)
The opening to SuperTed
A letter to the TV Times that claimed World in Action had misrepresented lesbians as satanists

Currently reading random children's novels from charity shops after reading a Joan Aiken one. I'm now on Fantastic Mr Fox, I've got one of the Demon Headmaster novels lined up and I picked up and had a very quick read of Superted (one word or two?) and the Stolen Rocket. I'm definitely curious...

Mine was SuperTed. I did not grow up in any part of Europe where it aired regularly & I now know it’s not rare . I saw it a few times during the Disney preview weekends they used to run on cable sometimes & it just lodged in my head.
I think it's healthy to grow up being obsessed with a cartoon that you feel like you're the sole viewer of. Yeah, sure, Pokémon is great. Enjoy your Batman and your Duck Tales. But everyone needs a Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century or an Invasion America to balance that out.

British Actors only play British heroes.
I don't think American audiences got the Jude Law Superted movies.
