God i hate Rover, luuk save me from this bastard
He leaves a trail of echoes behind him, culling the ever-increasing frequency of corrupted Exoswarm with his sword as he tries to find an outlet for his restlessness. Nest after nest, hopping onto his motorbike to follow the next dirt road to the next unlucky creature under his grasp, a trail of gold shades at his heels until he runs out of tracks and is faced with the underground tides of the lake-right at the entrance of Luuk's hideout. He does not even need to key himself in, the doors opening for him without hesitation as the hideout lights up, filtration system kicking up with a small hum in the background. Rover. It's where Luuk finds him many hours later, curled up at the feet of the sofa, face buried in the cushion that had the most lingering notes of his scent, clutching it like a lifeline in the uncertainty he is drowning. 'Rover.' Swimming in his ache and delusion was a rhythm he'd been able to sink into easily enough. No way forward of this nameless ache, but also no way back from it. "Rover." That lifeline is pried out of his grasp, and replaced with a warm body that kneels at his height and embraces him with a careful tenderness. Rover's cheek rests against a warm, clothed chest and his first sweet inhale is like the taste of oxygen for an almost drowning man.

Mortefi is very fun to write but also very frustrating to balance in snarkyness, downbadness and caring-ness

Rover is a grown man and can take care of himself. Mortefi knows this yet with each passing second that he attempts to not think about it, it feels instead as if he has failed in some nebulous duty he is supposed to have engraved in his very bones. He has a first aid kit in hand while searching for clean, sterile bandages with the other when Rover's voice brings him out of autopilot. "Might as well start dinner, any requests?" The portable stove is already on, pot of water atop the burner as Rover kneels beside it with bag open, marginally less dusty now and jacketless as he takes out kitchen implements with ungloved, bare hands. Those tall black boots and gloves are nearby the burner, a sad attempt to dry them out after his leg fell half into freezing water upon trying to find the entrance of this cave and research outpost. Mildly alarming however, is how his arm is still wrapped up in that sorry excuse of makeshift bandages; half of it stained still with fresh blood and looming very close to the pot of clean water with every motion. "Are you still seriously going to cook with your arm like that?" "It's just Jinzhou Stew, just need to throw everything in and let it do its thing." Rover's half-smile is a show to placate him but it works to his dismay. Mortefi will not admit to staring at those shoulders for a second too long before he's able to dredge a half-hearted complaint. "Get over here first, otherwise instead of Jinzhou Stew we'll be eating Blood Soup."

It's like this until they come to a small stream, one that Wulfgard has no qualms about crossing until midway he realizes there are no other sounds behind him. He turns around, water line above his navel to look at the Endministrator crouched right at the shore, seemingly staring at the water intently. "Is everything alright?" This is enough to startle him into looking up, swaying unsteadily for a brief moment before he steadies himself and stands up. He opens his mouth but closes it, and while his eyes are covered by the mask Wulfgard could swear he is looking everywhere but him-as if trying to find something else to mention. "I don't know how to swim." It's only when he starts walking back, water now to his knees that he gets this answer, eyes darting to the curve of his round ear. It's a very pretty pink now, and it only turns deeper in the next few seconds. "You don't have to."

The Doctor’s dark eyes shine brightly in curiosity at the substance, his scarred hands hovering slightly above the closest glob. There’s but a brief moment of hesitation before his finger pushes in, deforming harmlessly the globe, shape returning to its original form after he pulls back his finger. Isidor could show him later how it would permeate his skin, cover entirely his arm in a protective glove, or reduced to infinitesimally tiny strands that would squirm inside his pores, inside his blood vessels, attach themselves to his nerves, lodge themselves in his spine, in the underside of his sternum, nestled safely, protectively right beside his heart.

Their faces blur into one, only able to see the crooked grin, their simultaneously perfectly white teeth-and their rotting gaping maws devoid of any. Avidius wishes to conjure his forte and wield his spectro into a lance to decapitate them like a humble scythe, to silence the images that assault his closed eyes, to vanish the voices that crawl up his arms and make the hairs raise up in disgust. He runs instead. He runs, and runs, and runs. To catch the figments of fiction that escape his fingers. It is far preferable to this reality in front of him. At least when it was the truth of his world he could decieve himself that he could make a difference. That what Augusta was doing was not enough, that he could do even better than her.

The dull metal of his mask reflected faintly the light of the map pulled up from the transponder, searching for the unknown area yet to be marked in the map. The black haired man also wastes no time to get close to Wulfgard to share the map so he can point at it. So close, he can faintly smell the scent of Buckflower powder clinging to the hem of his sleeves, the scent of the earth a persistent backdrop that masks the sweat and dust clinging to the rest of his person. If he were to take half a step closer, Wulfgard things he could lean his nose into those black locks.

He has asked himself more than once, why? With detached curiosity, gathering his own bearings. With earnest confusion, at beholding even a fragment of what he was responsible for in the past. With incredulous anger, at realizing it had not even been the first time. And now with growing horror and despair, one of its many victims sitting right in front of him, but unable to touch or detect her scent anymore. Aemeath smiles underneath the gaps of her fingers, apologetic, and it's the absence of recognition that makes dread creep up his neck with icy cold fingers. Now, that the dust has settled, that "Aemeath" sits outside in the lake silently and he can take the time to peruse the belongings is when all these tiny details make the tips of his fingers tremble. How the hint of milk candy lingers on the bookshelves and the sofa, on his own room, but it's gone from her own room upstairs. How his own room and blanket smell the most like dust and even a hint of mildew, as if someone could not bear to disturb anything inside.

He hadn’t known he was a Kuranta until well after their awakening, and it had been mildly disconcerting to see only a pair of protective eyewear, hood hanging around their shoulders when confronting them in the guts of the city, able to see for once their mouth as they barked commands to let them escape from Hoederer’s attempt at deception. It was even more disconcerting when the visor came off days later, even if he already expected that those eyes would have no hint of recognition, just looking straight at him, gauging how well he’d be able to use the information he’d spilled about the Feranmut-all the while chewing on a ration bar with his one good arm, the other set in a makeshift sling. But perhaps it was not quite as disconcerting as the picture it painted of a fully naked Kuranta, standing in front of the table as his tail swished from side to side, gaze almost comically focused on the array of devices and aids in front of him. Though it was not without reason.

Humanity has undergone rapid biological changes ever since the Lament, while understanding some of the more visible ones like the impact of the waveworn phenomena in the human body is of paramount importance in the medical field, so is the noticeable changes of other traits through out the centuries that while not directly affected by the waveworn phenomena, their evolution or disappearance being closely linked to that period of time might show new insights on the future direction of human physiology.

He trusts this man. It's the inevitable conclusion he comes to, after so many missed chances. The lack of preordained dance that nevertheless does not stop them from finding a nice rhythm. Not from the past, but built from it into something that by sheer miracle has bloomed into its current form. He longs for the trust of this man. The admiration, in his every word. The steady component of his gaze, looking beyond someone who is just a savior. The push and pull of his interested dance, taking the first step to be rejected but also letting him do the chasing on his own terms. He hadn't needed to come here in the first place if it was to take care of this flare up. He could've actually gone to the infirmary, or locked himself in his dorm or the cabin to let the fever bloom and ride it out for the next few days alone. Yet Rover has increasingly found that having a place to return to, makes all the difference.

He could cradle his head with a hand so that the impact against the carpet is softened, and swallow his groans while kissing him deeply. He could press his knee against the tight crotch of those pants and feel the hardness of his dick through the slacks. He could be the one instead to undo the collar of his medical uniform and feel the racing heartbeat against his tongue. Luuk would let him, without a question. Ninian sat down and cradled her head between her hands, feeling desperation mount in rising waves and anxiety making it hard to breathe. So much had been lost, because of her and she ignored the voices of Roland and Durban as they tried to snap her out of her one trail of thought because they had come to care for Hector and Eliwood individually just as much as they had cared for their people in the very beginning and she was a dragon and she had very nearly brought the world to ruin again as had others of her kin and unintended or not and she wondered if she had died would all of this have been prevented but she would never knew because Eliwood was dead and Hector was dead as well and Hector would continue to die and she couldn’t break him out or even find out who Lilina was whom he wanted to protect so much because
