A closer look at a Sturt desert pea (Swainsona formosa) flower. It is the floral emblem of the state of South Australia and a dramatic pop of colour out in the desert.

I should have given the names of these peas. The bright red ones are Sturt's desert peas (Swainsona formosa), the floral symbol of South Australia. The orange ones are Orange darling peas (Swainsona stipularis). The purple ones are both Downy swainson-peas (Swainsona swainsonioides).

Masses of wildflowers growing beside one wheel track at Boolcoomatta. Same on the other track too. The wildflowers went on for miles and miles. Very hard to adequately capture the scene.
These are slender darling peas (Swainsona murrayana).
