I live by a repurposed railway line, that runs through a flood plain. I love walking it at high water times. Mostly untouched for over 50yrs, the scrubby woodland margins morph into eerie swampscape. Magical.

A mile or so in to the rusty swampscape, empty plastic bottles, recently used, stood out amongst old garbage obscured by sludge. Scattered colorful pieces of plastic waved like the flags in her home village. She stopped to take in the surroundings. A faint humming sound buzzed beneath the bird calls to the southwest. Movement caught her eye in the distance. Some kind of swamp beast settled into place, concentric ripples like arrows highlighting its location.
