"NSR game and the creator has pronouns" is such a mouthful, we gotta bring back sworddream!!
August 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM
Somehow, Sworddream returns.
August 19, 2026 at 2:05 AM
Are we still doin' sworddream?

I have this weird feeling that if I call this thing OSR someone's gonna bludgeon me to death with a BECMI manual.

For the record, I didn't own SWORDDREAM. I didn't lead it either. There was no leading that movement.

Related: If we're not friends, don't tag me into discussions that have nothing to do with me. Don't act all close and cute to me either.

SWORDDREAM 2: Dream Sharper.

2021 osrposting: the osr is dead, sworddream is dead, streamers are *NOT* playing real games. Another old rpg guy is a creep and also racist, but not ALL osr. Here's a lyric game and a *lot* of procedure theory. Also 4th Edition is maybe good? Here's my fifth new social media platform since g+

Remind me who ruined Sworddream for us, that was actually a kick ass name
November 25, 2024 at 11:14 PM
i haven't seen a sworddream in years, i'm pretty sure half gave up and just used OSR for the SEO and the other half went with NSR

When people ask what kind of games we publish
and it's not not SWORDDREAM.

But also, I have to wonder if they know what the dream even was.

Sworddream is such a banger name, I wish we’d made it more of a thing.
August 19, 2026 at 2:24 AM
Omg the mention of SWORDDREAM gave me whiplash
July 21, 2025 at 8:26 AM
Sworddream has a vaguely mythic, romantic mouthful that Old School Revival/Renaissance can't quite match.

Better for the algorithm, though.

In 280 chars: POSR, certainly NSR, feels more about signalling you are part of a particular group rather than part of a particular design movement—from my perspective. Like SWORDDREAM. People will call Chris’s games Post-OSR, but Into the Odd is over a decade old. Certainly a foundational OSR game.

🌔🌓Deep Nightly Fathoms🌒🌑, a game about exploring dark, dangerous dreamscapes.

In this #SWORDDREAM / #OSR game you will travel the Kingdom of Night, a liminal space between life, dream & death, inspired—& illustrated—by the beautiful art of Gustave Doré.

Sworddream, DIY Elfgames, NSR, POSR, Fantasy Adventure Games...

How many times has there been a new name for the same thing?
March 27, 2025 at 2:42 PM
[In my best Alec Guinness impression] "Sworddream?" Now, that's a name I haven't heard in a long, long time.
August 19, 2026 at 3:35 AM
It's also impossible for me to ignore the connection between some of #RPGSEA's early adopters and SWORDDREAM, an OSR movement that emerged strong for like a year or two then quietly vanished into the ether.

...Which, if you think about it and you're in the IFYKYK crowd, that was kind of the point.

I found this here, may this be what you're talking about? It looks to be more of a philosophy about community first, rather than about games or game design. It looks very cool, though, and the name sworddream rocks.
