there are two types of symlink. there's the symlink that doesn't do what you want it to do, and there's the symlink that you should never make. if you create either unwisely you will have to consult the ghostbusters to get rid of it

Today i have discovered that, if you tell Linux to copy a file onto itself through a symlink, it truncates the file to nothing.
In completely unrelated news, my project is no longer deleting all of its source files when compiled on Linux.

The year is 2030. Everything is systemd. /bin/sh is now a symlink to systemd-posix-compat. You boot your kernel and it immediately execs into systemd. There is no userspace. There is only systemd.

finally looking into why Discord Canary on Linux doesn't properly update: they're shipping a broken symlink in the zip file for discord_utils lol
left is 0.0.600 (working), right is 0.0.638 (broken). 7-Zip errors with "Dangerous link path was ignored" showing it's from pnpm

I HAVE FIXED MY LINUX INSTALL.
the /lib symlink was replaced by a directory, meaning it couldn't even reinstall the kernel. i deleted the /lib dir, remade the symlink, and now my system is back. confusingly my login screen now supports both monitors, which it didn't before.
