Good Saturday morning. It's now 5:28 a.m., 59°F with a dark pre-dawn sky.

My daily post today, from my "Insect" file is a photo of a male Autumn Meadowhawk dragonfly (Sympetrum vicinum) resting on a blade of grass.

Sympetrum vicinum, the #Yellow-LeggedMeadowhawk, is one of some fifteen North American species of #autumnmeadowhawk, which are #dragonflies in the Libellulidae family. It grows to 26–35 mm long. #closeupphotography #macrophotography

I’m missing the #insects of summer, so I’ll be posting a different one every day…
This is a female Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum) that I photographed back in July. #bugsky #nature #photography

Good Friday morning! It's 7:57 AM and now 15°, with an overcast grey sky.

My photo today, featuring the color red, is an Autumn Meadowhawk dragonfly (Sympetrum vicinum). Adults are often observed at forest edges or clearings near breeding sites.

Sympetrum vicinum?

I think this is an autumn meadowhawk but I'm not confident. Any dragonfly enthusiasts who can help me out?

Love to photograph them but struggle to identify.

Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum)

Doing most of my photography mid-day, I don't often find dragonflies willing to sit still for me. It's always a nice surprise when one does.

It's pretty neat we get to live in a world with dragonflies.

Some dragonflies from a few days ago in the prairie area at Smolenski Park in Racine. There were more species flying around (or maybe just males of these ones?) but I only had my macro lens and they didn't get close enough for photos.

Went for a walk at lunch in the Jardin Botanique by the #Insectarium de Montreal. Saw a 6 mating pairs of Sympetrum vicinum (automn meadowhawks or yellow legged meadowhawks) laying eggs in the little stream. It was very cool also it's cleerly fall season when these critters are out.
