we just finished apostle 3 and need to tighten up the synoptics a little bit

If @ametsoc.org or @nwas.org ever gave out a "Graphic of the Year" award, it should go to Jay Cordeira, displaying the synoptics behind the Predecessor Rainfall Event before #Helene

It's an amazing graphic and displays our double whammy of 'rain and then more rain.'

Now there isn't really a doctrine of salvation by faith in the synoptics—there you're mainly supposed to keep Mosaic law, love each other, and help the poor—and John is... well its own weird thing. So let's stick with Paul.

I referenced a continuity error in Bridgerton in my response to papers in the session on Fatigue in the Synoptics, illustrated from an old tweet. No one in the room appeared to have watched Bridgerton! Tough crowd! :D #SBLAAR24

the historian dale allison basically says john likes to take stories from the synoptics and refine them to assign speech and action to specific characters to reinforce his goals for the story, which fits with this

Synoptics: Subs

John: Dubs

another point on this is that john almost certainly knew the synoptics but didn't include a nativity narrative, and i have always thought it was related that it does include this (imo v funny on purpose bit) about how jesus is just some guy from nazareth, which everyone knows is a real shithole

john was written later than the synoptic gospels; it used to be that ppl thought john represented a separate tradition and independent connection to the underlying stories but a lot of ppl now think john knew and extensively rewrote they synoptics to combine w/his own sources

Like, where to start with the synoptics...

One day I will ask a textual literalist how they reconcile John with the synoptics.

the synoptics vs the shitty gospel that sucks
July 3, 2026 at 3:32 AM
This is one reason why I like considering John as a theological "remix" expanding on things laid out in the Synoptics.

WPC DAY 2 mentions that conditions are favorable for a PRE over NE/NY. The factors are there tomorrow for it to come together. We'll see if it can work out or not. It's possible the deepest moisture and best synoptics do not time correctly.

So, of the two gospels that talk about Jesus’s birth, one starts with Herod out to have Jesus killed from the jump. The other with Jewish people looking to have Jerusalem redeemed from him.

And, in the synoptics, Jesus is relatively scarce in Jerusalem after that until the scene in question. 5/10

this sort of parallels an incident in matthew where the disciples in general are complaining about it. apparently john will often take stories from the synoptics and "improve" them by attributing action to specific named people and integratin them into the bigger picture narrative

Anyways, going through all the "son of god" sayings in the gospels and it's remarkable how basically in the synoptics (barring a couple uses), devils say this about Jesus, and in John, Jesus says it about himself.

[american chopper meme] JOHN KNEW THE SYNOPTICS AND HAS JESUS SAY BREAD OF LIFE BECAUSE JUST LIKE US HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL EPIOUSION WAS SUPPOSED TO MEAN

First post here!

The next few days across New Mexico and WTX look intriguing for severe potential, especially Saturday/Sunday. On Saturday, synoptics look favorable for supercells, but some concerns exist with mid level temperatures. Moisture concerns due to the position of the ridge exist as well.
