I am truly a dumbass sometimes. I realized that, if I wanted this potato computer to not crash whenever I opened programs like koikatsu or my steam games... I needed to have sysmain on since that thing apparently compresses ram, and I deactivated it long ago because a youtube tutorial told me so 😭

If you turn on the task manager detailed view you can sort by cpu or disk usage. For that laptop, it was the search index service, and SysMain (superfetch). The Defender anti-virus was also an issue, but it's very challenging to truly disable now.

Windows 10 disk usage 100% is fun. I think I'm figuring it out and getting help online, but geez. I just want this computer to not run slower than a snail. I've already uninstalled unneeded programs, disabled auto-startup programs, and turned off sysmain. Downloading updates now.

if you cn't find it with those... when you sort task manager/processes by memory, are you saying the amount of ram in use doesn't add up to what you think is being used? are you running win11? could it be the SysMain cache (used to be called Superfetch)?
