The T800 was reprogrammed by the resistance, so presumably Future Connor could have just told it the kinds of places that his past self could be found even if he couldn't remember exactly where he was on any given day

Let me put my movie nerd hat on... In the scene where the T1000 visits the foster carer's home looking for John, they mention that a big guy on a bike was there looking for him earlier. Both terminators are obviously taking a methodical approach starting at his foster home

Movies that have crazy situations and even fantastical elements but still keep things relatively grounded in terms of what its characters can do. Even Arnie's Terminator in T2 gets slapped around by and often hauls ass away from the T1000.
