Ed Miliband has finally shared the substance of a Joint Intelligence Committee report on how ecological disruption undermines security.
My take on this encouraging moment:

Ecological security: an important moment
The UN General Assembly high-level week is an uber talkfest, so it’s important to use the opportunity to say something important. While most of he media attention has been on some more rambli…

Why weren't the Australian people notified at the time?

This is OUR data, personal medical data that could be used to negate future private health insurance and/or life insurance assessment.

Keeping it under ya hat for leverage at some talkfest is poor form.

It's not a competition. The British empire is dead and buried. The commonwealth is nothing but a talkfest with no significance in the real world either

While this is true, I would argue that taking the "Sunday Politics Talkfest" model and having it for 8 hrs on every news station has created a level of BS dreck that has pushed out any mainstream investigative work. The indies who are doing good work have to fight idiot talking heads to be heard.
Fun part about David Ellison destroying CBS News, 60 Minutes and his late-night show is that he'll never be able to get any of it back. You could argue that latter was heading toward obsolescence anyway, but the Weiss-ification of the news has led to a permanent erosion of trust.

Communist China’s President Xi Jinping is so eager to sit down with President Trump at the White House on September 24 that he’s skipping the annual talkfest at the UN General Assembly at which he, like Mr. Trump, would be expected to give a major address

The $150 million it's costing to stage this climate summit "talkfest" would have been MUCH BETTER SPENT @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social on the federal GOV buying a "huge swathe" of native habitat somewhere down the east coast of Australia for a new national park.

The @albomp.bsky.social GOV should have saved Australian taxpayers $20 million for what is shaping up to be a WASHOUT, a "snubbed talkfest", and instead channeled that money into the government purchase of even just ONE HUGE parcel of private land to create a NEW national park.

"Just maybe" @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social should heed the message from being snubbed by world leaders to attend this $20 million "climate talkfest" that he needs to stay in Australia and worry about protecting forests from being destroyed by errant mining and wind farm projects.

#Labors National conference today, same old talkfest to avoid actually doing ANYTHING.
Honestly why do they bother? Australia’s a one party country.
Enough with the pretence, put troops on the street & own it, you know you want to, #TrumpLight is chomping at the bit to receive his rightful adoration

“Hanson’s address to the Conservative Political Action Committee in London drew a modest crowd, with only about 130 turning up to a hotel function room that was less than 1/3 full.”

Hanson flies across the world to a right wing talkfest and hardly anyone turns up.

Apropos of nothing: I was thinking about how there really aren't any movies about the Supreme Court except for 1980's "First Monday in October"

I don't mean movies that centers a case that's argued before the court, but movies about the actual experience of being a justice
First Monday in October
Amiable talents of Walter Matthau and Jill Clayburgh make First Monday in October a mildly engaging talkfest in which all serious issues serve as window dressing for an almost-romantic comedy.

She's been over there with Gina learning the ropes, she made a speech at that mad RW CPAC talkfest, during that speech she trashed Australia. Why was that ignored by Australian media, they have plenty of content space, just ditch the trite rubbish that they focus on

Barnaby Joyce and Bridget McKenzie apparently discovered Parliament is optional if there’s a UK talkfest on. Truly inspiring leadership from the “public service” party.

Nothing says “serious about governing” like sneaking off to a UK talkfest while Parliament’s sitting.
