Texas Penal Code §38.15 sets no fixed distance. Turner v. Driver recognizes a right to record police subject to reasonable restrictions. TCOLE training calls for a “safe distance” but specifies no universal number of feet.

Other places I’ve seen public comment requested on rulemaking in the past year include various aspects of the Texas Water Development Board, specifically relating to the new Water Fund, the PUC and TCOLE seeking comment on basic peace officer training curriculum.

With luck time as a Deputy jailer will allow us to transition to Patrol as a Sheriff Deputy or move laterally to the city that county is in as a Patrol Officer easily, either way we’ll have to get our TCOLE as a Jailer and be sworn in

I ranted a little about the CSPOA in a staff meeting this week, because I’m trying to get them to accept an interim charge having to do with auditing/recommending how TCOLE creates and reviews accredited law enforcement training course content.

Holy shit, TCOLE (not TCLE) actually found wrongdoing with law enforcement? They advise employers to report cops fired for misconduct as honorably discharged as a means of avoiding litigation against the employer.

One of the last, substantive policy blog posts I did was on that topic. The last TCOLE Sunset bill was a governmental embarrassment. They learned about every last problem in detail thanks to an excellent review by Sunset staff and responded, "Let's continue all of this for 12 more years."
A dirty, uncomfortable feeling: TCOLE Sunset bill lame, inadequate, and kicks can down the road on the biggest police accountability issues

That's not true at all! That database just tells you if they're licensed, TCOLE doesn't gather info about officer misconduct, and officers can't lose their licenses unless they're convicted of a felony. Bad cops migrate from agency to agency ALL the time.

At preventing it, identifying it, investigating it, punishing it -- none of it. TCOLE/Greg Abbott actively tried to close ALL records about police misconduct during TX's last special session and were only stopped by a hair's breadth. This state deserves ZERO credit on police accountability.

Can you only do it if you are an army veteran or do they mean all SOF veterans? The hits keep on coming in the TCOLE training course list.
Earlier this year I pointed out altogether too late that there was legislation honoring Special Operations Forces Day, which is mixing military acronyms, because it was alleged to be about the Army. Anyway I assume this is of the same vein. And also the content makes some assumptions.
Pondering the fact that we have a Special Forces Veterans Peace Officer Course.
