No. 9 Florida State softball has offensive explosion in series win over Cal
Seminoles get big win from a gritty Cal team
Florida State softball opened their weekend against Cal with a 8-1 win on Friday. Now, they looked to take the series against Cal stater Anna Reimers.
Against Reimers, Isa Torres and Michaela Edenfield both reached in the 1st inning. With two outs and two on, a single off the bat of Katie Dack gave FSU the lead.

Julia Apsel took over the circle, working with a 1-0 lead. Cal quickly had a runner at third after taking extra bases on an error. The Seminoles traded an out for a run, as a sacrifice fly tied the game back up.
For the top of the 2nd, it was two out hitting that got the ‘Noles back in front. A hit by pitch to Krystina Hartley and error that allowed Torres to reach had two on. An RBI from Jahni Kerr got the run back for the visiting team.

A fielding error by the Bears outfield scored two more runs, and got Edenfield all the way to third base. A fly out ended the inning, but FSU left with a 4-1 lead
Apsel had two strikeouts to keep Cal off the board in the home half of the 2nd. The ‘Noles kept hitting with two outs, as Kennedy Harp stood on second after a fielder’s choice and stolen base. A runner in scoring position did not seem to matter, as Ashtyn Danley went yard for the first time as a Seminole.

Miranda De Nava relieved Reimers in the 4th inning. De Nava walked Edenfield with one out, but a double play erased any run opportunities for the ‘Noles.
Apsel got the first out of the bottom of the inning, before a solo homerun from Tianna Bell gave Cal a run. Two outs from the defense, including a clutch grab from Jaysoni Beachum, limited the damage.
Quickly, FSU returned the favor, as Amaya Ross had a solo shot of her own in the 5th. The homerun off of De Nava made it 7-2.

After four innings of work, Apsel’s day came to a close, and Jazzy Francik took over in the circle. In relief, Francik retired the Bears in oder.
With two outs in the 6th, Torres and Edenfield stood on base after a single and walk. Now in the middle of the order, Beachum launched a 3-run homerun off of De Nava. The long ball from Beachum pushed the lead to 8 runs.

Francik returned in the bottom of the inning, now needing three outs to run rule the Bears. However, after the first out, a solo homerun from Elon Butler erased the run rule option. Cal quickly had two on and one out, after an error and single. The defense was able to strand the pair as they headed to the final inning.
Kennedy Harp and Danley reached safely in the 7th, on a single and an error. A pinch hit single from Shelby McKenzie brought in Harp.
A 11-3 ballgame in the last half inning, Francik gave up a lead off single, and two outs later walked another Bear. A ground out from second to first was able to end the game and give FSU the series win over Cal.
