I’m finally #TEFLcertified 😁

I got my #TEFLdiploma from the school a few weeks ago & another diploma from TQUK today (the awarding body that inspects students’ work)

Took 2 years due to health issues, mental health, but I’m SO happy I’m now qualified to teach English 😁

Journey isn’t over!

3. A woman makes a remark about his weight which he considers a crime punishable by death.
4. DHS policy prohibiting shooting at moving vehicles.
The agent who shots is clearly walking around the back of the vehicle holding a phone up in his right hand. Here is the body cam footage that shows him bringing his left hand up to take the phone so his right hand can access his weapon. The threat at this point is a mom in a stationery vehicle that hasn’t moved for some time pointing away from him. Picture of Renee Good’s spouse saying “You want to come at us? I say go get some lunch, big boy” to the federal agent who would then kill Renee. He couldn’t handle being made fun of so a woman had to die. His first words after killing her while she was driving a moving vehicle was “Fucking bitch!” Except from DHS policy on the discharge of firearms: “DHS LEOs are prohibited from discharging firearms at the operator of a moving vehicle, vessel, aircraft, or other conveyance unless the use of deadly force against the operator is justified under the standards articulated elsewhere in this policy.' Before using deadly force under these circumstances, the LEO must take into consideration the hazards that may be posed to law enforcement and innocent bystanders by an out-of-control conveyance.”

So I hope folks are okay. Largely, I have not been. This is absolutely terrifying and I've been on the verge of functional freeze. Nonetheless, I log on and get to work tutoring kids who need me. I do the work for my PhD and TEFL. I feed myself and try to sleep. We do what we can when we can do it.

tangentially related, but I do sometimes get kind of maudlin about how the world is closing when I think about the dumb shiftless young layabout shit that was available to me in my early 20s that is closed now. my understanding is that COVD/geopolitics kinda killed the TEFL thing in the mainland

anecdata that's a decade old, so this take is worth what you're paying for it, but one of the things that stuck with me from living in China is that if you've lived most of your life in metro areas in the west, you take for granted how diverse they are, until you're in a more homogenous place

The required level is a B1 or B2.

Equivalent to intermediate or upper intermediate English.

I worked as a TEFL teacher many moons ago, and that's most certainly not A level grade English - or at least it wasn't back then.

In its rush to appear tough, this government is losing what friends it had.

I do wonder how Beijing and Shanghai have changed in the decade since I lived over there. My understanding is that the TEFL scene got pretty much obliterated by COVID, so the places younger me would hang out are all probably gone.
