i think there is a big external prestige afforded to the people who "get" to do those embargo reviews for major AAA games but i highkey wish that would go away too. it's a huge amount of pressure. to this day i run across random comments from people still mad at me about my tlou2 embargo day review.

i don't regrets about my tlou2 opinion. but i had to obey strict embargo standards re: spoilers & couldn't even write what i truly wanted to say. after getting harassed over it so much, i didn't even have the energy to circle back to it later. whole exp was terrible (not the fault of my editors).

and then i had an extremely similar experience reviewing bayonetta 3. i had to obey embargo restrictions and got harassed for my opinions. i didn't have the emotional fortitude to write about my FULL spoiler take until years later. -tlou/tlou2 (weirdly tlou2 is better optimized for deck)

Oof yeah. I have such strong feelings about my distaste for TLOU2 and I'll probably never play it again BUT I also can't deny that trying to get content out for it before embargo is an inseparable and core part of what formed some of those feelings.

Okay! Please, anyone who hasn't beaten both TLoU2 and Uncharted 4 look away. 😅
I think there are VERY intentional parallels to the ending sequence as the daughter in Uncharted 4 and Ellie when she looks through her home with Dina ~ half way through TLoU2.

You can do 'realistic' and still have cool visuals! Control Resonant was really fun, and had a lot of memorable visuals. The issue is that many games want to be a movie, but without the carefully controlled visual language of films.
