Sweden's FMV is buying five vehicles for trials * TRACKX carries a crew of two and ten dismounts and has been developed since 2021; the purchase runs under the Implementation Arrangement for Common Arctic Mobility signed by the Finnish Defence Forces and FMV at Eurosatory in June * Defence minister Antti Häkkänen: the procurement "concretely advances the mobility and operating capability of the northern forces, a key part of strengthening Arctic security" Finland and Sweden have moved Patria's tracked vehicle from development to purchase, at the price of a trial: EUR 13 million on the Finnish side, five vehicles on the Swedish. The vehicle is a tracked armoured carrier for the north, in the 13-to-18-tonne class, pitched by its maker as a successor to light tracked carriers of the M113 and MT-LB generation. Finland's procurement is explicitly a pre-series: a year of field trials in the Kainuu Brigade at Kajaani from autumn 2027, then a jaeger platoon trained on it from the 2028 intake. Sweden's buy is smaller and for evaluation. Neither government has published a serial quantity; Patria's letter of intent with Finland concerns potential future deliveries. The paperwork is Nordic and multi-layered. The June implementation arrangement, signed by Lieutenant General Jari Mikkonen for Finland and Brigadier General Jonas Lotsne for FMV, frames TRACKX as pre-commercial procurement under a common Arctic-mobility programme; a separate statement of intent with Norway and Latvia was signed at the NATO summit in July. Patria's Jussi Järvinen called the move from development to procurement "an important milestone". **The schedule puts a Finnish serial decision no earlier than 2028, after the trial year, which makes the letter of intent the real product of 30 September.** It gives Patria a customer of record for a vehicle no army operates, while the Finnish and Swedish defence forces keep the option of saying no after a winter at Kajaani. Patria's other land programme, the CAVS 6x6, shows the template: a joint Nordic development, then serial contracts, then foreign assembly lines, the latest of them at Freisen in Saarland.
