In my tech career, we've gone from modems to frame relay to ISDN, to cable modems to FIOS with a potential for multiple Gb/s to my house. We also moved from flip phones to Palm Treos to iPhones. I've coded in C, Java, Python, Go and Rust. I used to write most of my software. Now claude-opus does.

No, people loved smartphones, it took Apple releasing one for them to really take off, but there was plenty of interest in Treos and Blackberries.
as long as we're rewriting the past to make AI not look like a scam, I've seen AI people insist that actually people were also against smartphones and no one wanted them and companies had to force users to get them, and uh, I was there. None of that is true.
