Trimark forever.
Y’all ever get nostalgia from seeing logos for movie studios that don’t exist anymore before a viewing? Like I’ll be so stoked whenever I see New World Pictures, Carolco Pictures, Cannon Pictures, Hollywood Pictures. Fuckin Dino De Laurentiis Corporation?

So I want to focus today on one of my favorite studios. Trimark was the last great theatrical b-movie studio and I want to show love to their genre offerings. So today I’m going to highlight their brief run and how it reflects the death of the b-movie in theaters.

Something about seeing that Trimark logo transports me to another world. 90s direct to video horror heaven with a deliciously unhinged performance by Corbin Bernsen and twinky Mark Ruffalo as a bonus. Perfect lazy Friday night movie.

Now after this, Trimark becomes a serious studio. Swimming With Sharks. The Doom Generation. Kicking and Screaming. They put out some truly great important indies. Eve’s Bayou is their peak. But there were remnants.

So I’m ready to do another long thread for newcomers to Bluesky. I’m going to look at the Marvel novels published by Boulevard books in the 90s. And if you thought I knew about Trimark, know this. That’s the entire line. That’s my collection. Let me tell the full tale.

You knew this was coming. Oh Leprechaun. What a mess. Sometimes called their first in house movie though debated. Everything about this movie’s production is questionable. Some say it was smooth. Some say it was almost fully reshot. What isn’t a debate is it made 9x its budget. It made Trimark.

I look at Trimark and see the last of a breed. They did limited releases in mid markets. They released trash. They were smart though. They shifted to the Miramax model early. They didn’t happen though.
