Not only have promises been broken around the execution of More MARTA & beltline rail, but these decisions are happening behind closed doors, far away from public view or criticism. We need transparency from MARTA, the Beltline, and our City govt. Uphold the More MARTA referendum and get to work! 🚊

TSPLOST is passing now 56-44. I'm certain it will pass, just by a closer margin than previous TSPLOSTs have.

The thing is, it wouldn’t generate enough money to improve service much. What bothers me more is that the commission replaced the general fund money we used to spend on transit with TSPLOST instead of supplementing it with TSPLOST.

This behind closed door decision, by a committee, has caused Atlanta voters to lose faith in leaders and risk the approval of future transportation referendums. Next year Atlanta will ask voters to approve another TSPLOST. Unless transparency improves, I do not see that referendum being approved.
Atlanta voters deserved to know that a MARTA committee nixed Eastside Beltline rail when the decision took place, not months later in an AJC story.

This behind closed door decision, by a committee, has caused Atlanta voters to lose faith in leaders and risk the approval of future transportation referendums. Next year Atlanta will ask voters to approve another TSPLOST. Unless transparency improves, I do not see that referendum being approved.
Atlanta tried this with Relay Bikes. Expansion never materialized, after voters approved a TSPLOST, which listed expansion as a project. Maintenance declined. The subsidy was not renewed and the program folded.

I gotta say, this Hamby budget seems pretty gimmicky to me. Where is the city going to find $7 million next year when SPLOST/TSPLOST interest is gone? All it really does is put off a property tax hike and/or some pretty drastic cuts until after the mayor and commission races next May.
