I fucken love "let's build some cool shit together and level up" both in fiction and in tabletop and I agree it's a kind of easily-dismissed part of the community. like I think lots of tabletoppers are actually quite community-focused but everyone talks about the murderhobos.

I hear this. My missus ran a DnD game back in the day for some friends who were not tabletoppers, and three bad rolls in a row put one of them off #ttrpg for life which is a real shame.

OK! "The Fabulous Tabletoppers" (1961) a rather strange organ sound.
I've the thing opened as the upper deck keys pivot up onto stops.
Models: 'reed' (mech and air), 'tone wheel' (Hammond) & this-1 "Transistor Divider". This console is a rather fancy version of a tone organ.

i think a very large part of this is the average tabletoppers also play games where they minmax and optimize their video games so they literally cannot get out of a meta mindset. to them its not good enough to do something in character when the player knows the mechanics

1/ The whole "cringe factor" is interesting just because of how culturally based it is. I honestly think that in the UK we became less cringe in the public eye than tabletoppers around 92
