Finally, it's worth noting that - beyond the obvious training issues - the MASSIVE takeup limiter on AI business services is data and labour regulations.

The takeup of gen AI in academia symptomises an obsession with speed and productivity over research and critical thinking. We're continually given crazy and arbitrary deadlines to mark work/return proofs/review articles/submit publications/respond to grant reviews. It's corrosive and unnecessary.

Besides being costly, means-testing creates potentially lethal false negative errors and non-takeup issues that universality eliminates in favor of non-lethal false positive errors that can be addressed via the tax system

there's also another factor which is that new technology is mostly intangible capital assets rather than physical machines, which means that takeup is a lot slower and the impact is a lot more diffused. the internet has impacted growth a lot, just very slowly over 35 years
