It was apparent that George was doomed but that Tamzene was strong enough for travel. However, a strong desire to keep her family together made her hesitant to accompany the Second Relief.
So George, Tamzene, and their three daughters would stay.

August 25, 1846: somewhere south of the Great Salt Lake is the final resting place of Luke Halloran. He died resting in Tamzene Donner’s lap. Despite George and Tamzene’s efforts, consumption and the stress of crossing the Wasatch took its toll on the young man.
