It’s #TarzanThursday!

Today’s subject—we’re kind of venturing from the topic, but only slightly:

Brendan Fraser as the titular wild himbo in “George of the Jungle,” Disney’s 1997 live action adaptation of Jay Ward’s 1967 cartoon parody of the Tarzan concept.

This is the 2nd time I’ve drawn Tarzan sitting in Jane’s lap (one of his favorite places to be 🌱♥️) #tarzan #tarzanthursday #myart #disneyfanart
Tarzan sits sideways in Jane’s lap while they read a book together, his forehead resting on hers lightly. He wears his white button-up and navy trousers with suspenders. Jane wears her white camisole and red skirt. Her hair is styled short, stopping near her chin.

KH1 is the only KH game with a Tarzan level, however KH2 is more fun >.> (also please clap since I basically ended up doing the entire Frieren weird head angle emotional arc when drawing Tarzan here)

So did series writer Don Garden, who left the strip during wartime to serve with the military. Thus Burne Hogarth took on the writing, and ‘Tarzan’ came to wholly represent his explosive artistic vision.”

The Lord and his Lovers

Very early post for #TarzanThursday

#Disney #Tarzan #MyArt #sketch
Tarzan, wearing his outfit from his time on Clayton’s ship, speaks animatedly with a hybrid form of Beast / Prince Adam. Adam’s large hand rests in Tarzan’s shoulder. Tarzan rests in the lap of Hercules, who holds him from behind and gazes warmly down at him. Eric, sitting on the floor, also looks up at Tarzan with a smile and gently, affectionately holds Tarzan’s leg with both hands. Shang leans his weight on Hercules and also gives Tarzan an affectionate look. Lastly, Milo holds Tarzan’s free hand and kisses his calloused knuckles with reverence.

🌟Latest Commission Work🌟

Happy to share my latest inked artwork for commission, requested by Thomas Belliston.

The subject: Thomas’ turn as Tarzan on stage from the Four Seasons Theatre Company’s 2024 production.

#ink #artwork
After sharing a sketch of Thomas for my #TarzanThursday series, he was so taken by the work to commission a finished ink portrait. This was a fun process, learning how best to capture Thomas’ power stance as the apeman and the tangled mane of knotted hair. And it’s always a pleasure to dive into one of my favorite characters!

It’s #TarzanThursday!

Today’s subject: Don Bragg, Olympic medalist in pole vault and Tarzan hopeful of the midcentury.

#tarzan #caricature #sketchbook
Bragg, a New Jersey native, had wanted to portray the famed apeman hero from a young age. Much of his youth was spent leaping about the trees of Penn Grove. Bragg would channel this spirit into athletics, which took him all the to the 1960 summer Olympics. He won gold in pole vault, a feat he hoped to build his Tarzan dreams upon. Today’s artwork is drawn from a photo series of Bragg in loincloth that ran in the 19 September 1960 issue of Life magazine, shot in Rome during that past Olympics season. Though a noble attempt, Hollywood passed over Bragg. The next “new” Tarzan of the 1960s would be another athlete: linebacker Mike Henry

It’s #TarzanThursday!

Today’s subject: Neil Hamilton, American actor of stage and screen, who played an adversary to Weissmuller’s apeman in the first two MGM-produced “Tarzan” movies.

#caricature
Hamilton had been something of a leading man type in the silent and early sound era, having been paired with the likes of Clara Bow, Norma Shearer, and Joan Crawford (though he was usually billed below his leading ladies). He was typed as a society man, someone of the modern era with manners and “breeding.” It was natural, then, to position his character Harry Holt as a foil to Tarzan and (losing) romantic rival for the hand of O’Sullivan’s Jane. After a lull period in the 1940s, Hamilton made himself over in television in paternal roles. Most famous of these of this era was Commissioner Gordon to Adam West’s Batman in the famed 1966 ABC television series.
