#TaxidermyTuesday
For #TaxidermyTuesday today, a closer look at this barn owl. Did you know, barn owls have a specialised serrated edge on the underside of their middle toe! Possibly a grooming adaptation, acting basically like a comb.🦉

For today’s #TaxidermyTuesday, a little sneaky behind the scenes look at a new display coming to Bolton Museum later this week. 🐊

Missed a few weeks of #TaxidermyTuesday but had to share that this badger is newly on display at Bolton Museum this week - pop in and visit! 🦡

#TaxidermyTuesday - late as always! But it’s been a busy week of talking about birds, and Young Naturalist Clubs. At the start of the week (well, Saturday) I enjoyed a day in the Nature Gallery talking to visitors about corvids and how we identify the different crows... with help from this raven!

A great first day back at work after a holiday, with research requests coming in… it seems owls are the bird of the moment with our barn and tawny owls currently getting involved with very interesting studies. (A day late for this #TaxidermyTuesday!)

For today's #TaxidermyTuesday 🐦 a case of taxidermal engineering:
This mounted bird with its striking tail feathers from the #KULeuven Zoology Museum recently caused quite a few raised eyebrows as it turned out to be “not a real bird” (1/5)

Finally bringing #TaxidermyTuesday over to BlueSky with this lovely whooper swan; not currently on display but was centre stage last year in our summer exhibition, Birds of Bolton. Plus, a mute swan I photographed at Moses Gate Country Park in January. 🦢

Another late #TaxidermyTuesday - You can’t get too close to these two golden eagles in the Nature Gallery at Bolton Museum (they are nesting!!) but if you look up from the Bolton’s History gallery, they are always looking down! 🦅

It’s #TaxidermyTuesday and a good news day! At Bolton Museum we work with conservation students, and this starling has just been completed. Sadly not displayable before, but now is thanks to their excellent work. I’m very pleased with this. 👏🏼

#TaxidermyTuesday - I’m sharing an office with these two currently as they have just come off display, but they are one of my favourites at the museum! Full of character, a great educational tool - not all bad. 🐀🐀
