One challenge that I face is that my students are fixated on grades because of a broader institutional culture of grades-based success. Students feel that knowing an answer or "getting it right" is more important than showing effort or thought, so they often don't try. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

By emphasizing processes over outcome, teachers can help students develop a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset. Every student can learn and show effort; if we reframe the goalposts, more students can see growth and success #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

Encouraging students and providing positive feedback helps inculcate in them a growth mindset. In my classroom, the right answer is not always the goal for each student; often, the effort and thinking matter more than the end result. Prioritizing the journey matters too #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

Mindset, whether growth or fixed, can determine a student's self-understanding and self-belief. Challenges include a fixed mindset resistant to change while opportunities include being open to using effort to overcome challenges #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

How do teacher educators handle dis/agreement in the classroom? 🤔
Our BERA-funded international study found:

That as a teacher it is the effort and work toward mastery that should be reworded not jut the accomplishment. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

A5 - #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset my feedback never answers the question but instead nudges the student down the right path. I give positive feedback on proper implementation of the scientific method. I do not just reword the student that wrote the most they must present meaningful writing.

A4 - #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset In science most of my assessment is based on data analysis or hands on experiments. Students are meant to demonstrate the concepts not just repeat them to me. As such students are given time to revise and resubmit to show greater understanding.

A3 - #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset Since my classes are accelerated or college level I begin them by framing them as challenges to the students. I explain that all of them have shown the potential to rise to this challenge to get in to this class in the first place.

A2 - #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset #scichat In science I think the largest block to learning is the mindset that it is dull. I combat this by creating an energetic class. I encourage unusual questions and remind students that doing science is a process of discovery.

A1 - #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset I use the power of yet all the time in class. As a Biology teach I know that tis ti the first time students are seeing most of this information. I faster a culture of inquiring. Asking questions and encouraging exploration. Its all new you are not suppose to know.
April 26, 2025 at 2:10 PM
A5- #TeacherEd #SpEd Increased training on available tools and options for in class support. Destigmatization of learning disabilities. Many parents believe that giving there child an IEP labels them a failure.
April 12, 2025 at 2:52 PM
A4- #TeacherEd #SpEd I actually teach students to self-advocate as part of college prep. I encourage students to address there concerns directly to me and not to shy away from asking for help. For the special ed kids I explain the laws governing them and use my self as an example.
