Update: #TeamPixie: Pixie is on antibiotics for the rest of April. Then she'll get a CBC to determine white count. Then we'll discuss further treatment, if any, from there. Foremost, our plan is to keep Pixie with her family and comfortable regardless. No invasive procedures.

#TeamPixie Update 8: We want to see Pixie increase her food intake while she’s fighting the infection to continue steady recovery. Most of all, she’s content, feisty and trotted out the gate after her blood work yesterday.

#TeamPixie Update: Pixie ate all her dinner last evening. She upended her bowl and was clanging the gate of the paddock with her hoof as A arrived. When she opened the gate for Pixie, Pixie trotted right over to the enchanted forest. This is good.

Our Pixie ended up stunning both K and our vet, Dr. E, at her eye appointment yesterday! The ulcer is just about healed and the epithelium has totally healed! That is unusual for a mare of her advanced age! It was her tenacity, and all of your support and prayers! #TeamPixie

#TeamPixie Update 7: So the plan is to increase her food intake provided Pixie's willing to do it. And we'll work by the 50/50 rule that K's always done. Give us 50%, you get 50% back from us. Together it's 100%. Pixie maintains her pasture and trotting time. It's where she's happiest.

#TeamPixie Update 2: Pixie, as many of you know, is a tough cookie who knows what she wants and needs. Triage, especially at her age (likely 28-30), is to first, keep her comfortable, then add in what she needs. Because if Pixie's not comfortable, she won't do jack.

#TeamPixie Update 6: The key is to get the weight on her to increase her fat to help her immune system fight. Give her the energy and power that's within her. Good news? She's not losing any weight. She's just gaining too slowly to be optimal to fight the infection as quick as we'd like.

#TeamPixie Update 4: K & our vet talked about how we balance everything for Pixie & keep her mentally happy, which she is right now. Her eyes are bright, her coat is oiled. The issue is it's even more difficult to get weight on her now since her immune system is working hard on the infection.
