like idk. I used to call my friends on skype. we would DM on steam to schedule a session with the whole group on mumble or teamspeak. we posted cool stuff on our little phpBB forum. I would go socialize with strangers on IRC. Discord came and sweeped everything, took control of all of this

They have Livestreaming/Screen Sharing so that's a big plus and you don't have to pay money to host your own server (*cough cough* Teamspeak *cough cough*) so there's advantages here

we spent some time on all kinds of apps, Teamspeak, Mumble, everything had its own problems. we even went to Razer Comms for a bit, but that had... its own problems 😅
we settled on Dolby Axon after a while, because it had persistent chats and really good VOIP.

I think the biggest mystery surrounding myself is how 11/12 years old me was able to regularly voice chat with both strangers and online friends on TeamSpeak, like I genuinely don’t know how I was ever that social to not be self-conscious of how I sounded to others

So… What should we use instead of discord? I know there’s teamspeak but they have their issues from what I’ve heard. Are there any other places? Cause discord can suck my big toe at this point.

But I'm trying to get people to group up on Stoat, since it feels more robust. Otherwise I also use Steam for simple gaming calls

oh this was the in office quality, the place that you can put decent mics on the podium, and have everything wired Ethernet so maintain quality, and it was like using Teamspeak over GSM (I imagine).
I miss having a proper mic though, soon though.

Me and my friend group have all switched to teamspeak. Had only 2 Problems with the server this year. Meanwhile with Discord we had 2 problems with servers streaming etc every month!
