IOSCO Announces Call For Applications For Its First Techsprint On Investor Education In The Age Of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The call for applications for the first IOSCO TechSprint, powered by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) AI Lab, was launched today. The online portal will be open from today, 2 March, to 30 April 2026. In collaboration with the FCA AI Lab, IOSCO is organizing a TechSprint focused on Investor Education and empowering investors to navigate financial markets shaped by new technologies, especially AI. The selected teams will work on either or both of two problems statements, both focused on the impact of technology for retail investors: -   How to help retail investors identify and avoid AI-enabled fraud and scams -   How technology can be used to educate and empower retail investors to use AI as a learning tool about finance, while understanding AI-related risks across diverse regulatory and cultural contexts. Key elements for both problem statements are accessibility and potential for alignment across multiple regulatory and cultural contexts. Teams will work virtually over the next few months, with regular check-ins and mentoring from IOSCO and its members, and showcase their project at an in-person Demo Day event on 8 October 2026 in Madrid, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of World Investor Week. The ideal applicants will hail from all corners of the ecosystem to create diverse teams with complementary skills. See the full problem statements and description of the TechSprint here. A guide for participants is available here. Any questions regarding the application process and the TechSprint may be sent to ioscotechsprint@iosco.org . “New technologies such as AI offer extraordinary opportunities to expand financial inclusion, enhance investor understanding and improve the quality of services for investors. They also introduce new vulnerabilities: sophisticated and lightning-fast fraud, deep-fakes, and misinformation that can erode confidence and harm consumers. These challenges demand collective action and forward-looking solutions. The IOSCO TechSprint represents precisely this spirit of international collaboration, and demonstrates IOSCO’s commitment to guiding technological progress in a way that safeguards and educates investors and supports healthy, well-functioning global markets.” -   Jean-Paul Servais, IOSCO Board Chair “As AI drives the rapid evolution of markets, strengthening the digital skills and vigilance of retail investors has become critical to their financial literacy and protection. This TechSprint is proving to be a powerful platform for mobilizing expertise and innovation, advancing the collective mission of IOSCO members to better protect and educate investors.” -   Camille Beaudoin, Chair of the Committee on Retail Investors

BIS, South African Reserve Bank Announce Winners Of G20 TechSprint
* Fifteen shortlisted teams from around the world competed to develop innovative technological solutions to address trust and integrity in finance. * Solutions aim to establish trust among financial institutions through digital identity solutions, improve the ability of small and medium-sized enterprises to finance through credit data portability, and drive wider adoption of fast payment systems globally by mitigating fraud and cyber risks. * The winning teams are Team Ownapay SA (Proprietary) Ltd, Team Silence Laboratories Pte Ltd and Team FNA and Proto. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), under the South African G20 Presidency, today announced the winners of the G20 TechSprint 2025 challenge on trust and integrity in finance. The G20 TechSprint is a joint initiative between the G20 Presidency and the BIS Innovation Hub to seek out best-in-class technological innovations aimed at solving challenges facing the global central banking and regulatory community. This year's TechSprint, the sixth edition of the G20 global hackathon open to developers from around the world, was launched in May. Fifteen shortlisted teams presented their solutions to an independent panel of judges convened by the SARB in South Africa. Following are the winners for each of the three problem statements: * Ownapay SA (Proprietary) Ltd, from South Africa, won the category for problem statement 1, which invited submissions on developing digital identity solutions: establishing trust among financial institutions through innovative, verifiable and privacy-preserving digital identity technologies. * Silence Laboratories Pte Ltd, from Singapore, won the category for problem statement 2, which focused on credit data portability: improving the ability of small and medium-sized enterprises to finance through secure, consumer-consented data exchange solutions that facilitate seamless cross-border sharing of credit information. * FNA and Proto, from the United Kingdom, won the category for problem statement 3, which called for solutions to mitigate fraud and cyber risks: driving wider adoption of fast payment systems globally – and promoting financial inclusion and economic growth – through technology designed to reduce fraud and cyber risks.   The 2025 edition of TechSprint has addressed trust and integrity, while advancing scalability and promoting financial inclusion. Thank you to all who contributed for your curiosity, discipline and commitment to a more open and trusted financial future.   Pablo Hernández de Cos, General Manager of the BIS   As policymakers, our unwavering commitment to fostering innovation is crucial. The G20 TechSprint has once again shown that some of the most scalable and forward-thinking solutions to global financial challenges can emerge from fintech start-ups in small towns as well as seasoned developers in global hubs. Hosting the TechSprint on African soil for the first time revealed the depth of talent and ingenuity across our continent and beyond. The solutions put forward underscore the urgent need to build open, trusted and inclusive financial systems that transcend borders and serve everyone.   Lesetja Kganyago, Governor, SARB Shortlisted teams Problem statement 1 * Currency Network Ltd * Meeco * Ownapay SA (Proprietary) Ltd  * Settlefirst Assetsworks Private Ltd  * walt.id Problem statement 2 * Akiba Digital (Pty) Ltd  * A team of eight individuals led by Amit Bapat1  * eSusFarm Africa  * Silence Laboratories Pte Ltd * Smile Technology Pte Ltd 1  Full list of team members: Rakesh Ranjan, Brijesh Baisakhiyar, Vinodh Rajkumar, Hrishikesh Nashikkar, Amit Bapat, Ashoo Jain, Utkarsh Jaiman, Keerthika Dhadapani. BIS And South African Reserve Bank Invite Global Innovators To Take Up G20 TechSprint Challenge For Trust And Integrity In Scalable And Open Finance
* The sixth edition of the G20 TechSprint global competition calls for solutions to address trust and integrity in finance. * The G20 TechSprint invites development of innovative solutions for verifiable digital identity, consumer-consented credit data portability and fraud and cyber risk mitigation. * Open to developers worldwide; winners to be chosen in November by an independent judging panel. The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) today launched the sixth edition of the G20 TechSprint focused on developing innovative solutions to promote integrity and trust in finance. The G20 TechSprint is an international competition to explore innovation and develop cutting-edge technological solutions to pressing global challenges. Following the success of the previous competitions in the areas of regulatory compliance and supervision, green and sustainable finance, central bank digital currencies, cross-border payments and solutions to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, this year's TechSprint will focus on three problem statements, as formulated by the BIS Innovation Hub and SARB:  * Digital identity solutions: establish trust among financial institutions through innovative, verifiable and privacy-preserving digital identity technologies. * Credit data portability: improve the ability of small and medium-sized enterprises to access finance through secure, consumer-consented data exchange solutions that facilitate seamless cross-border sharing of credit information. * Solutions to mitigate fraud and cyber risks: drive the wider adoption of fast payment systems globally – and consequently promote financial inclusion and economic growth – through technology designed to reduce fraud and cyber risks.   The G20 TechSprint is more than a competition. It is a collaborative effort to redefine the future of finance. Our collective challenge is clear: to develop scalable, adaptable, and inclusive solutions that reinforce trust and integrity across borders. The themes of South Africa's presidency- solidarity, equality, and sustainability-should inspire us to break down barriers and forge partnerships that have lasting global impact.   Agustín Carstens, General Manager of the BIS   Innovation must drive inclusion, build trust and deliver lasting impact on our continent and across the world. We are looking forward to solutions that will bring more people into the digital economy and enable cross-border trade.   Lesetja Kganyago, Governor, SARB How to participate The G20 TechSprint 2025 is open to developers from around the world. To participate, register at: https://app.apixplatform.com/h1/g20southafricahack and submit technological solutions to one or more problem statements. * Shortlisted teams will be invited to develop their solutions over an eight-week period and will have an opportunity to showcase them and receive feedback from national authorities and invited experts. * An independent panel of experts will choose one winning solution for each problem statement, to be announced by November. * The winners for each category (problem statement) will receive an award of USD 30,000. All short-listed projects receive a stipend of USD 5,000. The last day to submit proposals is 20 June 2025.
