Detroit techno did not separate technology from social reality. The machines suggested another city, but the music still carried the pressure of the existing one. Futurism sounds different when it comes from necessity.

When i was in engineering school there was an awesome libarts course called “The electric century” that covered a lot of the complexity of technohistory, which for me was a fun class because it covered my special interests, but the lack of other actual engineering students in the class made me sad.
