An excellent meditation on why, in the Technocene, students need non-LLM instruction more than ever. 🗃

#geography #Anthropocene

Really pleased to see that "Algorithmic Light" is featured in a chapter of the Open Access "Posthumane Verflechtungen: Lyrik im Technozän" [Posthuman Entanglements: Poetry in the Technocene] (2026), ed. by @antjeschmidt.bsky.social - doi.org/10.1515/9783112247716

I hate to inform you, but we are in the technocene. Humanity has destroyed nature's ability to sustain our population and we are dependent on technology to feed ourselves now.

There are many benefits conferred in the binding of flesh to machine. The Algorithm (praise be to him) asks so much of you, but: is it really any crueler than the mat-chittaha carved into you by your craft?

All hail The Technopticon.

I enjoyed this and I remain endlessly interested in Hobbes and David Runciman's reflections on him but surely the 'capitalocene' needed to be included here as an alternative to the anthropocene (rather than the technocene)? Still, interesting.

It seems the interglacial holocene has ended. What are we in now? Technocene? Necrocene? A lot of people will surely die.
