fox news has an ideological, technological, and actuarial problem: they can't go as far right as podcasters and posters, they can't reach younger viewers who don't have cable or expensive live-tv streaming packages, and they have an audience that is dying off.
Fox News seems adrift these days, unable to get their usual culture war nonsense to stick this midterm election.

There's short term reasons for this. (Inflation, etc.)

But I think they're facing a longer term problem as MAGA gets more extreme.

on the whole i would describe the american space industry as more ambitious on the technological level and less pragmatic on the operational level; the chinese space program is largely the inverse, making more pragmatic technological choices in service of a more ambitious mission timeline

If an AI company fails, we’re going to let them go bankrupt, right? We’re not going to bail them out, right? We’re gonna make them pick themselves up by their own over-promised technological bootstraps, right?

This can be legislated out of existence. We have legislators, laws & institutions for making new ones. But technological exceptionalism—the idea that digital tech is so vital to our econ & welfare that regulating it is to our detriment—has become so entrenched that citizens forget we have this power
This is legit one of the most dystopian things I've ever read, and I could literally feel the hope leaving my body as I read it. We cannot allow this type of technology to be wide-spread, it has to be legislated into the ground.

As a metaphor for American technological dominance in the 20th century, Dr Manhattan could not be beat

An unbelievable titan that can do anything - land on the moon, end world hunger, cure deadly diseases- being used entirely to vaporize low rent crooks and Vietnamese peasants

I'm like TNG Star Trek.

Philosophical and Whimisical, Humanist and Aspirational, Filled with both hope and worry about technological progress.

And every other week, discovering yet another Federation Leader is betraying the Ideals we're supposed to have.
Im like 60s Star Trek, ideological, nonsensical, gay coded, anti-fascist, and misunderstood by my conservative parents.
I’m like 90s Star Trek, you can’t fully appreciate me unless you’re able to put up with some annoying episodes
