#Tectonics
So right! Earth wouldn't be habitable without plate tectonics.

Don't make me explain why plate tectonics mean close ties between Iceland and Canada.

💯Love it! And don’t forget plate tectonics!

Plate tectonics?
November 5, 2026 at 2:51 AM
Depends. Usually we say it needs to have been created by either volcanism or tectonics, but then also have a certain amount of prominence, and then there's a fight while the reasonable geologists decamp to the pub.

Tectonics wiki page mentions the term “planetary tectonics” (used in at least one monograph), also referring to icy moons

That's a good question. Strictly speaking, tectonics comes i think from the greek word for "building", so you could argue that tidal forces like this are tectonics of a sort, just not *plate* tectonics. I think real geologists would take umbrage at the abuse of terminology.

That wasn't just a "landslide, this is a shifting of plate tectonics.

Well anyway.

Alright, that was a long night. I gotta take some nap time before I start the day later on.

Well done, America! Well done!

It would probably have to be a bit bigger than Earth to have plate tectonics at that distance.

I think it is called something tectonics actually, gravitational tectonics? 🤔 I believe ive heard it mentioned in relation to the gas giant moons.

That's some quick plate tectonics!

I wouldn't be surprised if plate tectonics were important in the emergence of life on this planet, so the geologist lady is right to be excited.

I really like the theory that plate tectonics are necessary for the evolution of complex life (as we know it).

The Earth is not unique in its biogeochemical composition: Earth-like exoplanets may be common in the known-Universe. Rocks with oxidation like those on Earth could have similar plate tectonics & potential for a magnetic field; essential conditions for primitive life to evolve...

That is plate tectonics for ya.

I don’t think we as humans have a say in plate tectonics.

Anyway it's very funny that the master of all those who whine about Jewish identity being "biblical race science" is a crackpot who thinks plate tectonics delineate human divisions

I mean, plate tectonics are cool and "do" cool stuff, so... yes?
