Chief forecaster at the Namibia Meteorological Services Odillo Kgobetsi says a prefrontal system currently developing over the Cape Town area is expected to push cooler air northward, resulting in significantly colder conditions across southern Namibia. “In the next two days there will be a bit of cooling then setting in over the south. A prefrontal system will then set in over parts of Cape Town and will bring in some cooler air in the southern part of the country,” he says. Last week, the South African Weather Service warned that a cold front is expected to impact several provinces, starting from 28 May. The weather service issued a level 2 warning for damaging winds over the Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces. “We should expect cooler air over the weekend, also spreading towards the central and eastern parts of the country. A little bit of a mask,” Kgobetsi says.
