Two very rare and special plants from South Stack, Anglesey. The endemic Field Fleawort (Tephroseris integrifolia subsp. maritima) and Spotted Rock-rose (Tuberaria guttata)

I'm a bit late for #wildflowerhour as per usual but South Stack Fleawort (Tephroseris integrifolia subsp. maritima) has to be worth a post! I'm sure many a botanist will recognise this view.

Two #FavouritePlants from #WiltsBotSoc weekend in Suffolk/Norfolk Fiddleneck from Knettishall Heath and Tephroseris palustris (can’t remember common name and running out of charge on train 😬) from Dickleburgh #WildflowerHour

More Field Fleawort Tephroseris integrifolia at Martin Down NNR, Hampshire-Wiltshire today. Spraying has drastically reduced Brachypodium sylvaticum and created bare soils for this, and other species, to germinate. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

South Stack Fleawort (Tephroseris integrifolia subsp. maritima), only known from a small area of Anglesey. They were looking fabulous this week and adding another layer of colour to the wonderful Scilla verna heath along the coast. #wildflowerhour

Field Fleawort Tephroseris integrifolia. Delighted to come across decent numbers of this scarce plant today at Martin Down NNR, Hampshire-Wiltshire. Interestingly, these were in an area sprayed to control Tor-grass Brachypodium sylvaticum. @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour

Trumpets aka Marsh Fleawort Tephroseris palustris is flowering in GB after an absence of 126 years. C.30 plants in a few locations in Norfolk & they’re telling us what they want in order to thrive again. Part of the @naturalengland.bsky.social Species Recovery Programme project for this species

This film shows my #botanicalillustration of the Field #fleawort #Tephroseris intergrifolia; 3 hours condensed into a couple of minutes.

I sometimes wish I could actually paint as fast as this, but I bet I'd miss out on the meditative side of #sciart and #illustration.

Tephroseris sp. photographed near Cappelletta di Masone (Liguria, Italy) in mid-May 2024. This species is at the center of a small biological mystery. I’ll explain the details in upcoming posts, but patience is needed… 1/9

A treat to see my first flower of the scarce Field Fleawort (Tephroseris integrifolia) of 2025. Also great to have the company of @ukorchids.bsky.social and see Marsh Fritillary, Cornwall Bunting, Green Hairstreak, Yellowhammer and other downland delights.

Recent research on Tephroseris balbisiana by Prof. Marco Mucciarelli’s team (University of Turin) shows these plants are only distantly related to T. balbisiana and belong to a clade including T. integrifolia (L.) Holub., Tephroseris crispa (Jacq.) Rchb. and others #Phylogenetics #BotanyResearch 3/9

Chalk beauties on Dunstable Downs. Monitoring Field Fleawort, Tephroseris integrefolia again this year 5 out of 60 rosettes flowering at the moment. There are always many more just biding their time as rosettes.

Not in the same section I believe - sect. Jacobaea doesn't seem to contain it (see bsapubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... for the original listing and www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... for a follow-up).

S. congestus is now known as Tephroseris palustris, fwiw

For almost 40 years, plants in this small Ligurian Apennine area, between Passo del Turchino (588 m) and Bric del Dente (1109 m), were identified as Tephroseris balbisiana (DC.) Holub, an endemic of the Ligurian & Maritime Alps (France & Italy).

The initiative focuses on four species: Artemisia granatensis (Manzanilla Real), Tephroseris elodes (Cineraria), Narcissus nevadensis (Narciso de Sierra Nevada), and Pinguicula nevadensis (Tirañuela). Efforts include seed collection, nursery production, and reintroduction into natural habitats.

GREIFFENBERG, GERMANY - MAY 31: Plants, including a flowering swamp ragwort (Tephroseris palustris ... ), grow in the marsh of a rewetted portion of the Sernitzmoor peatland on May 31, 2023 near Greiffenberg, Germany. The Succow Stiftung, a German foundation devoted to international peatland restoration, has rewetted approximately 300 hectares of the Sernitzmoor in an ongoing effort since 2014 as part of a project called 'toMOORow,' which seeks to both reap the climate change benefits from peatland rewetting as well as provide commercial opportunity to local farmers and businesses.
