Another couple from Caprock Canyons for #Stunday. The red, sandy soil and cliffs there are punctuated by thick seams of what I take to be calcite. Perhaps a geologist can comment further. (From 2007)

A striking sandstone monolith rises above the cliffs and up into the sky at right. The viewpoint of the photo is from the bottom of a wash bordered by a vertical wall of multilayered rock and dirt. The sky is mostly clear. A closeup of the wall of the canyon shows interweaving seams of harder rock with vertical striations. There's some odd crossbedding going on that cuts across horizontal layers.
