🎛️ current considerations
*** replace Pamela's New Workout? maybe with the Expert Sleepers FH-2 Factotum. it serves basically the same purpose, but can do way more without taking up more HP--for example, it can convert MIDI to CV, and it supports MPE. haven't checked but maybe it's possible to generate non-tempo-synced LFOs/CV with it? *** remove Bastl Little Nerd i never use this because i always forget what modes do what, and don't feel like opening up the instructions for it just to figure it out. it should probably be replaced with another CV utility. *** remove/replace Intellijel Plonk? not really a fan tbh, its sound kinda sticks out and is often kinda hard to fit with the rest of my palette. would be good to find another drum voice, except more interesting + more my style. maybe the Expert Sleepers' General CV could be an interesting source for "drum-like" sounds? or maybe Disting NT can emulate an analog-style drum machine (i.e. 808)? *** consider alternatives to Intellijel Polaris? do i even really need a filter?? i use full voices most of the time and West Coast Synthesis styles are way cooler than doing filter-based stuff anyway... i kinda miss how the filters worked on the Micron; each one had a wildly different character. whereas Polaris' filter types differ only in their slope/number of poles *** replace Intellijel Planar2? this is a low priority change; i haven't vibed with it much yet but i want to give it more time before replacing it. if i do replace it i should probably replace it with a different CV generator--ideally one that can also operate as a control surface like Planar2 does. maybe there's a X/Y pad/Kaoss Pad-like module that i'd like more? maybe Intellijel's Tetrapad? need to look into that.. *** replace Expert Sleepers Disting Mk4 with Disting EX Plus or Disting NT Disting NT looks really cool and seems like its UI is pretty smart/streamlined, so shouldn't be too annoying to patch. it has algorithms for MI Braids' functionality and for MI Clouds'. algorithm inputs/outputs can be assigned to any of the NT's inputs/outputs, or they can be routed internally (i.e. a Braids voice into Clouds' reverb, without using a physical patch cable). it can also generate LFOs/control signals for internal routing. the NT supports sending/receiving audio over USB. not sure if it supports both at once(?). but maybe could just use that, and then have an external USB host device for when i want to connect hardware? this works for control signals too. alternatively, the NT can also record audio to files on its SD card--up to 10 files can be recorded simultaneously. recorded files can also be replayed on the NT. should probably compare and contrast the Disting NT with uO_c and the firmwares available for that. how much overlap is there? can the NT replace it entirely? it's kinda lame to have a physical modular system but then be doing stuff virtually anyway, but it seems like the NT does it just about as tastefully as possible. there are no "virtual patch cables" - seems like the UI is designed to be as fast and simple as possible. *** consider alternatives to Intellijel Quad VCA? is there anything that does the same in less HP? *** replace Ornament & Crime (14HP) with After Later Audio Ornate Criminal (10HP) this will save HP, plus it looks nicer and the layout is better, even if it's a little more cramped. definitely want to compare it with the Disting NT to see if the NT can do everything that the available firmwares of the uO_c can do. *** remove/replace the Malekko Varigate 4+? perhaps with a more unique sequencer or some other tool for generating CV curves/patterns? if i get another sequencer, it should be something weird and unique, i.e. way different from anything that can be achieved with the Deluge. for example the Make Noise 0-CTRL definitely looks and sounds cool, and would probably pair well with my 0-Coast. sequencers maybe: - Noise Engineering Mimetic Digitwolis - Make Noise 0-CTRL *** upgrade Loquelic Iteritas? Loquelic Iteritas Percido exists, not sure if it is a strict superset. *** figure out XAOC Zadar more, or replace it low priority change because i should definitely re-read the documentation in case there's anything i'm missing. *** replace 2HP EG? maybe its purpose can be served by the Zadar? maybe there's another module from 2HP that i'd find more useful. *** replace Make Noise Maths? low priority change, if i decide to do this. would be cool to use less HP for the same/similar functionality. though to be honest i should probably have MORE Make Noise stuff rather than less. it seems like they really "get" what modular is about, and i love West Coast style and ethos. *** replace Intellijel Rainmaker + MI Clouds neither of them really do what i'm looking for in a delay/reverb/texturizer. they're both more about texturization, and i think what i want is a more delay/loop/stutter-centric effect. definitely should look into MI Beads more though to see if it seems like my style maybe: - Make Noise Plexiphon - Intellijel Sealegs - Mutable Instruments Beads *** replace Make Noise Rosie? maybe there's a better input/output module for my needs. Rosie is only for output, but it would be nice if a replacement could also help in bringing in external input--especially stereo, i.e. for integrating the Deluge's output into the patch. see also: my notes on the Disting NT, above, since that module can send/receive audio over USB and the like. *** modules to consider - DivKid Ochd
